History & Lore of Peridot

Known to the ancient Egyptians as the "gem of the sun," peridot was mined on the island of Topazios (now Zabargad) in the Red Sea as early as 1500 BCE. Some historians believe Cleopatra’s famous emerald collection may have actually been peridot. Remarkably, some peridot arrives on Earth inside meteorites.

A stone of warmth and harmony, peridot is said to dissolve anger and invite prosperity. Traditionally worn to ease jealousy and resentment, it is associated with balanced friendships and renewed energy.

Symbolism: Strength, harmony, and prosperous growth.

How to Care for Peridot

Peridot has a Mohs hardness of 6.5–7 and is sensitive to rapid temperature changes and acids. Clean only with warm soapy water and a soft cloth — never ultrasonic or steam. Avoid wearing it during heavy activity to protect against chips.
